In the latter part of 2008 I commissioned Toby and Gannon Roth to find a lessee for a vacant building located along Washington Street in Thornton. The job was a challenge due to the inside condition of the space, but soon a tenant agreed to lease two thirds of the building. The Roths did an excellent job working with both sides to satisfy specific needs and get all the appropriate papers in order. I was pleased with this accomplishment. I was also concerned about the economy and did not hold much hope in finding a renter for the smaller portion of the building. That negativity was not shared by Toby and Gannon. I see community leaders, entrepreneurs, history makers. I know that everyday we work with these students, we are showing them how much they have to offer their family, community, state and even country. Imagine if all 45,691 at-risk students in the Denver Public School System had the opportunity to have a positive mentor throughout their entire educational life. The graduation rate would drastically increase, the youth would be accountable, responsible and selfless, and they would carry a passion for making a difference in their community. This is what we teach our students, and this is what our students are accomplishing. We are honored to be able to work with over 3,000 of these students and help them become leaders.
